What kind of services do you offer?

I specialize in manuscript critique, conceptual editing, line editing, proofreading, and submission package analysis. For educational publishers, I offer conceptual editing, line editing, and proofreading. See the Services page for a broad description of each of these offerings.

What kind of projects do you accept? 

In addition to reading and language arts projects in educational publishing, I accept literary and mainstream fiction. In the nonfiction arena I prefer biography, memoir, narrative nonfiction, reference, and pop culture. Line editing, copyediting, and proofreading services extend beyond the aforementioned range of books. If you are unsure whether your project falls within these preferred parameters, please send a query.

Are there any projects that you do not accept? 

Science fiction is not a specialty.

What are your rates? 

Initial consultation is complimentary. Rates depend on the specific service that you need, the complexity of work involved, and the size or word count of your project. Once I see a sample of your work and assess what is needed, I will quote the rate to you.

How do I engage your services? 

Tell me first about your project and the kind of service you think you need. If you aren't sure what's needed, you may send a sample of your work for review. After reviewing your material and determining the service I think is most appropriate, I will quote my rate for that service. If you choose to proceed, I will send you a letter of agreement that will specify the service and the rate, as well as the payment and delivery schedule. You will return the signed letter of agreement to me (you will also have a copy for your records), along with an initial payment. The work on your project officially starts after these preliminaries are in order.

How long does it take? 

Depending on the service and the length of the manuscript, a routine turnaround takes anywhere from two to four weeks. If a deadline is involved, I will meet it, shooting to return your project before the target date. I tailor and focus my work with you according to your project's needs.

Can you assure me that I will be published? 

I cannot assure you that you will be published by a traditional publisher. Agents decide whether or not to represent a project. Editors and publishing houses decide on which books they will publish. Self-publishing is always an option. Whether you plan to pursue traditional publishing or self-publishing, the one assurance I can give is to work closely with you to refine and polish your project. I will do everything possible to make your words count--not only what you say but how you say it and how you present the material.
